Crochet Heart Bow Pattern

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

• Yarn – worsted weight yarn in two colors
  I used worsted weight yarn for all 3 of the bows presented in this pattern. The blue and white bow was crocheted with Red Heart Soft in navy, and Caron Simply Soft in white. For the pink and red bow, I used Red Heart Super Saver in petal pink, and the red is Red Heart with Love in holly berry. The purple bow was made with Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn from Michael’s in lavender and amethyst.
• Crochet Hooks – Size G (4.00mm) & H (5.0mm)
  You’ll use the G hook to make the main part of the bow and the H hook for complete the band that goes around the main part.
• Stitch Marker – You can find various ones in our shop.
• Scissors – You will need a pair of scissors for this project.
• Large Eye Needle – You’ll need a needle to weave in your ends, and to sew your band around the main part of the bow. My favorite needles to use are Lion Brand Large-Eye Needles.
• Needle Threader – This little tool makes weaving in ends and sewing with yarn so much easier! I highly recommend having one of these in your craft arsenal. Here’s the needle threader I use.
• Alligator Clip – This is optional, but very useful if you want to use the bow as a hair clip or add it to a hat. You can get some here.

Once you have all of your supplies, you can get started.

Chain 50, but make sure you leave a 4” tail. Ensure your chain isn’t twisted and slip stitch into the first chain to join.

Row 1: Chain 1 and single crochet all the way around in both loops, and then slip stitch into the first sc.

Row 2: Chain 1 and single crochet into the next stitch. Now we are going to start making a ‘heart’. To do so, you’re going to make a single crochet with both your colors. Stick your hook into the next stitch in both loops, yarn over and pull through using the color you want your hearts to be, and then yarn over with the main color and pull through both loops.

Next single crochet with your main color in the next two stitches. Now, you’ll make another ‘heart’ in the next stitch. It’s really important that when you make your hearts that you don’t crochet too tightly. If you do, it will be REALLY hard going through the stitch on the next row. After you make your heart, you’ll *crochet a single crochet in the next two stitches and then a heart again*. Repeat from * to * for the rest of the row. You should end up with 17 hearts in total. Tip – To make the hearts stand out, you can use a smaller hook to go under the hearts and gently pull the yarn up to ensure they aren’t too tight.

Row 3: Drop your alternating yarn color, chain 1, and single crochet all the way around using your main color joining with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 4: Chain 1 and single crochet over your alternating color in the next stitch. *Crochet a heart in the next stitch, and then single crochet with your main color in the next two stitches over your alternating color*. Repeat * to * all the way around. Slip stitch into the first single crochet at the end of the row.

Row 5: Drop your alternating yarn color, chain 1, and single crochet all the way around using your main color joining with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 6: Chain 1 and single crochet over your alternating color with your main color. Work a heart in the next stitch and then make a single crochet using your main color in the next stitch. In the next stitch *make a heart and then single crochet in the next two stitches using your main color over your alternating color*. Repeat * to * all the way around and slip stitch into the first single crochet at the end of the row.

Row 7: Drop your alternating yarn color, chain 1, and single crochet all the way around using your main color joining with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 8: Chain 1 and single crochet over your alternating color with your main color. Work a heart in the next stitch and then make a single crochet using your main color in the next stitch. In the next stitch *make a heart and then single crochet in the next two stitches using your main color over your alternating color*. Repeat * to * all the way around and slip stitch into the first single crochet at the end of the row.

Row 9: Drop your alternating yarn color, chain 1, and single crochet all the way around using your main color joining with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 10: Chain 1 and single crochet over your alternating color with your main color. Work a heart in the next stitch and then make a single crochet using your main color in the next stitch. In the next stitch *make a heart and then single crochet in the next two stitches using your main color over your alternating color*. Repeat * to * all the way around and slip stitch into the first single crochet at the end of the row.

Row 11: Drop your alternating yarn color, chain 1, and single crochet all the way around using your main color joining with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 12: Chain 1 and slip stitch all around. Complete the row by doing a sl st in the first one and cut your yarn and then yarn over and pull the tail through the loop.

Row 13: Attach your main color yarn to the other side of the bow and slip stitch all around to give it a nice finished edge like the other side.

Here’s what the inside will look like before you weave in all the ends –

The next step is take your needle and threader and weave in your ends. You’ll want to leave your longest tail loose, and use it to sew your bow cinch so it stays in place.

Cinching your bow

Pinch the center and pull it up just a bit to your liking and use your tail to sew it cinched. Once done, weave the end in.

Lastly, you’ll need to crochet the middle band that goes around the main part of the bow in the center. Here’s how:

Chain 21 using your G 4.0mm hook. Single crochet in 2nd stitch from hook and all across. *Chain 1, turn and single crochet all the way across beginning in the 2nd stitch from the hook.* Repeat * to * 2 more times for a total of 4 rows.

Wrap the band around your bow in the middle and sew the two ends of your band together. Fluff up your bow, add the alligator clip to the back, and you’re done!
