Crochet Cross Pillow Pattern

I’m so excited to share this crochet cross pillow pattern with you! The idea of making an old rugged crochet cross came to mind during the week of Passover last year as I was reflecting on Jesus. I thought a pillow would be perfect so I picked up my hook and designed this one.

When I crochet, I love listening to my favorite worship music and just getting in the groove of praising and crocheting. One of my favorite worship songs is called ‘New Wine’ and it was really neat that they came to worship with us in Austin, Texas while I was working on this little pillow!

Here’s a pic I snapped of their new album art from “There is More” album at the conference:

Okay, now that I’ve told you all the details about the inspiration of this crochet cross pillow and my favorite worship song, let’s get to it! This project works up really quickly and is two pieces that are single crocheted together with a little bit of stuffing for dimension and fluff. The only stitch you need to know how to do is single crochet so it makes it beginner friendly too!

Supplies you’ll need:

Clover Amour crochet hook – I used a 5.5mm I hook for this project
2 skeins of Red Heart Soft – wheat – you will have a nice amount left over once done
Pair of scissors – I like to use the ones in the picture by Gingher that are 4in embroidery scissors
Large needle – These Lion Brand ones are my absolute favorite to use for weaving in those ends.
Needle threader – This little tool is invaluable and there’s even a pack of 50 available on Amazon!

Pattern:

You will make two of these pieces so you can single crochet them together:

Chain 21

R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each chain all across. Ch 1  and turn

R2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook in both loops all across. Ch 1 and turn.

R3-R19: Repeat row 2

R20: Sc in 2nd ch from hook in both loops all across. Once at the end, chain 15 and then turn.

R21- Sc in second ch from hook until you reach the main piece.

Your project should look like this at this point-

From here, single crochet in both loops all across. Once at the end, drop the loop from hook so it can be picked up later. Attach another piece of yarn to the bottom of the row and chain 14. Cut yarn and fasten off the chain.

Next, pick up the dropped loop and single crochet in the 14 chains you just made. Ch1 and turn.

Row 22-37: single crochet in second ch from hook in both loops across. ch 1 and turn.

Row 38: single crochet in second ch from hook in both loops across. Cut yarn and fasten off once done with this row.

Row 39: count 14 stitches from the right arm of cross and attach another piece of yarn. Chain 1 and single crochet in the next 21 chains in both loops. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 40-68: single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and single crochet all across remaining chains. Ch 1 and turn. once done with row 68, cut yarn and finish off by yarning over and pulling it through the loop.

You’ll want to make one more cross and after you’ve made the second one, you’ll sew in all the ends of both pieces.

Once the ends are all sewn in, lay the two cross pieces together and then put your hook through both loops on both pieces and single crochet all around.

I started mine under the left arm in the bottom corner and worked clockwise. Once I got to the corner under the right arm, I started stuffing it. I stuffed the bottom part once there was about 3 inches left to crochet together. Once it’s all sewn together, cut the yarn, finish off , and sew in the remaining tail in and then you’re done
